At Fundación Nánthea, we celebrate this May 23, International Women’s Football Day, by reaffirming the commitment that inspired our creation: breaking down barriers and opening new paths.
We remember all those women who faced criticism, mockery, persecution, bans and isolation simply for trying to enjoy their favourite sport. Brave women such as Ana Carmona, known as “Nita Veleta”, in the 1930s, Concepción Sánchez, known as “Conchi Amancio”, in the 1970s, and so many others who paved the way while rowing against the tide.
Women’s football no longer asks for permission. It demands, inspires and transforms. It moves forward.
Every training session, every match and every girl who laces up her boots is a collective victory on the path towards real equality, both on and off the pitch.
We continue working so that opportunities depend only on ambition, effort and passion not on gender.
